NABU checking illegal enrichment of first deputy SBU head
The Special Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) of Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has entered into the single registry of pretrial investigations a case involving the illegal enrichment of the first deputy head of Ukraine's Security Service. The investigation will be carried out by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.
"On March 10, SAP entered into the single registry of pretrial investigations the fact of illegal enrichment of the SBU first deputy head (Article 368-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The reasons for registering the criminal case, in accordance with Article 214 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine, are investigative reports by journalists," said NABU's press service.
The head of NABU's investigation department is charged with investigating these reports.
The name of the first deputy SBU head is not mentioned. The SBU's website says Pavlo Demchyn is SBU first deputy head and head of the main bureau for battling corruption and organized crime.
Hromadske.ua earlier reported that Demchyn had not included all his assets in his e-declaration. Journalists in their investigation reported that Demchyn owned a house outside the city and a collection of expensive cars.
SBU spokeswoman Olena Hitlianska said Demchyn has contacted NABU with the request to open a case to check the veracity of his e-declaration.
