EU should decide how it sees future status of Ukraine

President of Slovenia Borut Pahor has said the EU should clearly define its policies towards Ukraine, which is part of the European space.

"I stress that to solve all the problems in Ukraine, it is be important for the EU to more clearly outline how it sees the future of Ukraine's membership in the EU," he told reporters after the talks with Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday in Ljubljana.

Pahor said he was a member of the Group of Friends of Ukraine, which aims at deepening cooperation between Ukraine and the EU. At the same time, according to Borut Pahor, the EU which consists of 27 countries finds it difficult to reach a consensus, but they need to decide on how to help Ukraine overcome the crises.

"As for NATO, I am convinced that no one has the right to prohibit or command any state which vector, which security system it should choose. I understand that some neighbors have certain apprehensions, and they can be understood, we are talking about the proximity to the border, so I wish Ukraine to resolve all the issues in order to bring all the decisions to the needed level," he said.
