Poroshenko expects EU's decision on visa-free travel for Ukraine in Oct

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says he expects the European Union will take a decision on visa-free travel for Ukraine next month.

"We'll have a visa-free regime in a few weeks, I hope, in October," he said an official ribbon-cutting ceremony of a kindergarten in the village of Slobozhanske in Dnipropetrovsk region.

It was reported that on July 7 the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs voted in favor of recommending that the European Parliament cancel visa requirements as soon as possible for citizens of Ukraine, Georgia and Kosovo who make short trips in the Schengen zone.

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the procedure of the approval of the visa regime liberalization would take a few months.

The abolition of short-stay visas should be considered at a meeting of the parliamentary committee, then adopted at the plenary session of the European Parliament, and, finally, approved by the EU Council (by member states).

The European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs on September 5 heard a report on the liberalization of the visa regime with Ukraine which suggests putting Ukraine on the list of the countries with which the EU has a visa-free regime.
