Minsk, Kyiv hope for international assistance in Ukrainian-Belarusian border demarcation, says Belarusian foreign minister
Ukraine and Belarus expect international assistance in the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei has said.
"Belarus and Ukraine could hope for international technical and financial assistance to resolve the given tasks," the minister said during the unveiling of the first border marker on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border in Chernihiv region on Wednesday.
According to him, as well border demarcation being in the interests of Ukraine and Belarus, it is also in the interests of the EU countries.
"That's why it's not a secret that we also will work on international technical assistance issues via the methods available to us," he said.
Makei also added that the sides would develop the best possible infrastructure on their joint border, which would meet the most modern demands.
"Both Belarus and Ukraine are in the centre of Europe, on the most important transport routes, with great flows of people and cargo crossing us," the minister said.
He said Ukraine and Belarus will strive to ensure the border is not just for their citizens, but that it also has a reliable international dimension.
