MEP Zita Gurmai (Hungary) has said that she met with former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in Kharkiv on Tuesday and that the ex-premier supported the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

"First of all, she talked about her desire to join the European Union, because it is the common desire of Ukraine, [and because] she began this process and that this is a priority for her party," she said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, speaking about the outcome of her meeting with Tymoshenko.

Gurmai said that the meeting lasted about an hour and that Tymoshenko looked well.

The MEP also met with the administration of the hospital, in which the ex-premier is undergoing treatment, and visited the Kachanivska penal colony.

As for Tymoshenko's possible treatment abroad, Gurmai said, the ex-premier did not raise this issue, and most of the meeting was devoted to the subject of Ukraine's European integration.

"The fate of the country cannot depend on the fate of one person, and I was very happy that Tymoshenko agreed with that," Gurmai said.
