Yanukovych: Reform of Ukraine's defense sector to be based on individual analysis of defense companies
The reform of the defense sector in Ukraine will be based on a full analysis of the technical, technological and economic characteristics of all defense companies, President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
"With respect to each [defense] company, we will need to work out with you [the directorate of the defense sector] individual plans for the development of these companies, and probably their restructuring and planning. Planning should concern, first of all, the [state] defense order," he said at a meeting on the reform of the defense sector in Kyiv on Monday.
Yanukovych said that an increase in the defense order during the reform of the defense sector was being considered among key components.
"I'm sure that defense contracts are our future, and this is what we have to focus on," he said.
Yanukovych noted that the effective implementation of defense reform, in addition to an objective analysis of the technical and economic state of the industry, also requires new ideas and approaches.
"I would like to hear new proposals and approaches [from the director of the defense industry], as well as optimism for the future," he said.
Yanukovych also stressed the importance of an effective defense reform for the defense capability of the state, as well as the successful development of the real sector of the economy.
