Ukraine's Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the Portuguese Autonomous Region Madeira are planning to sign a cooperation agreement.

Relevant agreements were reached during a visit by Crimean Prime Minister Anatoliy Mohyliov to Madeira on May 16-18, 2013, the premier said at a press conference in Simferopol on Tuesday.

"The Island of Madeira is a European tourism center and a region with a mentality close to Crimea. I held a number of meetings - there is progress and mutual interest in cooperation. I think we will document the results of the trip in an agreement," Mohyliov said, and added that the sides are planning to develop relations in the spheres of trade and economy, science and technology, and culture.

In addition, Mohyliov said that Crimea is ready to learn from Madeira's experience in the legal regulation of its autonomous status.

"Practice shows that the proper adoption of laws helps to increase the level of economic development by several times. I am sure that these contacts will help us find solutions to many problems," Mohyliov said.

As reported, on May 16-18 Mohyliov made an official visit to Madeira.

According to the main department for information policy of the Crimean government, Crimea has been cooperating with Madeira since 2003. This year Ukraine's Embassy to Portugal initiated the resumption of this cooperation.
