Brussels promises Kyiv to help diversify gas supplies, says energy minister
The European Union has promised to help Ukraine diversify its sources of natural gas, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky said.
"The European Union has pledged to resolve the question regarding the diversification of sources of natural gas, which will certainly influence pricing [in relation to Russian gas]," Stavytsky told the press in Brussels.
The minister answered in the affirmative a question as to whether this concerns reverse deliveries from Europe.
"We have full agreement, there is a clear plan that we will carry out in the near future," Stavytsky said.
At issue are Ukraine's Western neighbors - Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland, he said.
Stavytsky noted that the technical possibilities for gas being delivered from Europe are up to 30 billion cubic meters. "That will completely resolve all issues," he said.
Gas will be supplied at spot-market prices, he said.
Asked abut the timeframe for such deliveries, Stavytsky said, "In the near future."
