Poroshenko calls on Ukrainian diplomats to coordinate efforts with other countries to avoid elections interference

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has urged Ukrainian diplomats to coordinate their efforts with their counterparts from host countries to develop a mechanism to prevent extraneous interference in the Ukrainian elections.

"The tentacles of Moscow have very strongly penetrated social networks, they have separate media, they are in cyberspace ... The Kremlin skillfully covers its subversive activities with democratic values, democratic principles, and we should now seek ways to cooperate with other states and coordinate efforts to develop a reliable mechanism to prevent extraneous interference in the electoral process and to ensure the free expression of the will of our citizens," Poroshenko said at a meeting with the leaders of the diplomatic institutions of Ukraine in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The president added that already leading IT companies are recording the creation of tens of thousands of "fake accounts with Russian roots."

"Russia is preparing for a new powerful manipulative campaign: fake news to undermine stability, and I have no doubt that Moscow will not lose a single opportunity to discredit our achievements in order to sow disbelief among citizens in the future," he said.

Poroshenko, Ukrainian diplomats should study the experience of each host country, what has been done legislatively and by executive order.

"Russia been up to this [meddling] in other countries," Poroshenko said, recalling the Dutch referendum on the ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.
