Poroshenko stands for apolitical nature of veteran movement
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that the veteran movement must be apolitical.
"Respecting the individual political views of each of you, I appeal, nevertheless, to the nonpartisanship of the veteran movement," he said, opening the International Volunteer and Veterans Forum "Ukraine Is Where We Are" in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Poroshenko noted that at the elections representatives of the volunteer movement and veterans should nominate candidates and join the government, both state central and local self-government bodies.
According to the president, the veteran movement is extremely important for solving national issues, "to protect our joint interests, to educate the younger generation."
He believes that veterans and volunteers who demonstrated their state position in the front line or in the front zone become "a new personnel reserve of the state."
"I think it's unfair, wrong and unjust when veterans are in the operational reserve of the military commissariat only. They should become the personnel reserve of each local government, every ministry, committee," the president said.
