Poroshenko to sign decree on proclamation of 10th anniversary of Ukrainian language

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has announced he will sign a decree on the proclamation of the 10th anniversary of the Ukrainian language.

"Today, during a trip to Ivano-Frankivsk region, I will sign a decree on the proclamation of the 10th anniversary of the Ukrainian language with absolutely clear steps we need to take in these 10 years," the president said during the seventh National Prayer Breakfast in Kyiv on Thursday, May 31.

Poroshenko mentioned achievements in the development of the Ukrainian language in recent times.

"Quotas for Ukrainian-language television have been introduced, quotas on the radio for the Ukrainian language have been introduced. Publicists, writers say that today it is much easier to write and print books. Why? It is not only because the state helps, it is because people read them... This is our joint achievement with you," the president noted.
