Next election in Ukraine to be held in 2019

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko excludes the possibility of holding early election in Ukraine.

"The election season will begin in 2019, as stipulated by law," Poroshenko said at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the Association of Ukrainian Cities in Kyiv on Friday.

There is still quite a lot of time to go before the election, he said at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the Association of Ukrainian Cities.

Poroshenko said that after he was elected Ukraine's president, he called an early parliamentary election, and the next local elections were held in 2015.

"What was that done for? My friends, it is necessary to stop populism and allow the country to work for four years without election and to implement real reforms. It is better to have a strong motivation and contribute to the development of your communities instead of preparing for one-time handouts and bribes," Poroshenko said.
