PGO raids Ukrzaliznytsia over large embezzlement

Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) is raiding the building of public joint-stock company Ukrzaliznytsia over a large embezzlement of funds belonged to the company, Deputy Head of the procedural management department of PGO Oleksandr Tsyliurik has said.

"Now PGO officers are raiding the building of Ukrzaliznytsia to record a crime related to embezzlement of a large amount of the company's funds. One of the top managers of the locomotive department was notified that he is suspect. However, the notification was handed to one of the board members, as the suspect is absent," he said on NewsOne TV.

He said that the embezzlement of hundreds of millions of hryvnias is being investigated. The sum of UAH 12 million is related to the above-mentioned notification.

"Products of improper quality that cannot be used in repair of rolling stock were procured with the help of the above-mentioned top manager from a company," Tsyliurik said, adding that the procurement was made in 2015-2016.

He said that Ukrzaliznytsia and Board Chairman Wojciech Balczun would help investigators.

According to the website of Ukrzaliznytsia, deputy heads of the department are Ihor Rezhylo and Viktor Lesik.
