Ukraine's gross foreign debt narrows by 4.4% in 2016 - NBU
Ukraine's gross foreign debt grew by 4.4% or $5.25 billion in 2016, to $113.48 billion, the National Bank of Ukraine reported on Tuesday.
According to a posting on its website, in Q4 2016 the debt narrowed by 2.2% or $2.53 billion.
The NBU said that banks were most active in cutting their foreign debt, which is linked to their additional capitalization – by 30.1% or $3.86 billion, to $8.97 billion, while foreign debt of the central bank narrowed by 6.9% or $470 million, to $6.24 billion.
In the public administration sector a slight rise in foreign debt was recorded – by 1.1% of $380 million. This is mainly linked to the reduction of the debt by 2.8% or $1.05 billion in Q4 2016.
As reported, Ukraine's gross foreign debt in 2015 narrowed by 6% or $7.58 billion.
