We hope to achieve progress on visa free regime before Nov 24 summit

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko hopes and will do his utmost to make progress in addressing the issue of a visa free regime with the EU before the summit on November 24.

"We still have this hope, and I will do everything possible to ensure this [visa free regime for Ukrainians with the European Union]," Poroshenko said at a press conference after talks with Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Lofven in Stockholm on Monday.

He said Ukraine has fulfilled all criteria for the visa-free regime with the EU and this has been recognized by the leaders of EU countries and the administrations of the European Council and the European Commission. "Now, there are indeed issues that are absolutely not related to Ukraine. For example, the mechanism for suspending visa-free regimes," Poroshenko said.

He said the European Parliament's decision is now needed. "The leadership of the largest groups of the European Parliament has said clearly that it supports a visa-free regime for Ukraine and it is now just necessary to find the formula that will make it possible to demonstrate progress. It is desirable, and I hope very much that it should happen before the Ukraine-EU summit," the president said.
