EC supports introduction of visa-free regime with Ukraine - meeting of Klimkin, Timmermans
Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin has met with First Vice President of the European Commission for Better Regulation, Interinstitutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights Frans Timmermans.
The press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported the parties discussed in detail the main issues of the agenda regarding relations between Ukraine and the EU, in particular the prospects of liberalization of the EU visa regime for Ukrainian citizens and the completion of ratification of the Association Agreement.
"Klimkin briefed the interlocutor on the progress of our country in the practical implementation of reforms, highlighting Ukraine's implementing all the obligations under the action plan on visa liberalization. Timmermans, in turn, noted the European Commission fully supports the speedy introduction of a visa-free regime with Ukraine," the report reads.
During the meeting the sides also discussed the situation in the east of Ukraine and the status of implementation of the Minsk agreements. The Ukrainian foreign minister told about the need to maintain the EU's consolidated position as for further sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation until the full restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
