NABU director calls on colleagues from SAP to more actively back public prosecution

Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Artem Sytnyk has called on his colleagues from Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's office (SAP) to have more active position in court for delivering sentences in the cases investigated by NABU.

"We need to form the Anti-Corruption Court and our colleagues from Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's office should stir up work to support public prosecution, as now there is no progress in it, frankly speaking," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

Sytnyk said that NABU gets enough evidences during investigations of criminal cases, SAP approves them, the materials are passed to court, but sentences in the NABU's cases are not passed in the desired terms.

He is convinced that the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court jointly with stirring up the SAP actions in court to support public prosecution would bring success to anti-corruption reform.

"We cannot leave court holding the bag. Prosecutors also take part in proceedings. Many things depend on prosecutors. Smart and active prosecutors and independent courts are the two required elements," he said.
