Violation by Russia of human rights in occupied areas warrants sectoral sanctions
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has declared that sectoral sanctions should be introduced against Russia for its violations of human rights in occupied Crimea.
"Russia's violation of human rights in the occupied territories, including towards Crimean Tatars, requires the introduction of additional sectoral sanctions. I think a timely dialogue about sanctions, to pass a Jakson-Vannik amendment, would be appropriate," Poroshenko said in parliament on September 6 during his annual address in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
