Ukrainian judicial system overhaul starts in September with Supreme Court
Ukrainian judicial system reform will begin in September, starting with competitions to fill seats on the nation's Supreme Court, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said.
"Deep cleaning and renovation of the judicial system will start in September. Primarily, formation of a new Supreme Court is about to begin on a competitive basis," Poroshenko said in his comments published on the presidential portal on Thursday.
According to the president, one of the main objectives of judicial reform is mandatory punishment for corruption.
"As a result of the judicial reform, the fight against corruption will not resemble sport fishing anymore, which principle is carried out in the following way: the corrupted person is caught, exhibited and let off. The key word “imprisoned” will be used from here on out.
