Odesa region will set up Council for Region Economic Development - Saakashvili

The National Reforms Council has decided to set up a new authority - the Council for the Economic Development of Odesa Region, which will bring together a number of services and structures in the region to improve their interaction and increase work productivity, Head of Odesa Regional State Administration Mikheil Saakashvili has said.

"This is a new agency that among all the regions will be first established in Odesa region. Its essence is to combine tax, customs, law enforcement agencies, the regional administration and the city administration," he told reporters after a meeting of the National Reforms Council in Kyiv.

Saakashvili said the proposal was considered at a meeting of the National Reforms Council and the council members supported it. At the same time, he said the decision to establish such a body has to be formalized: it is necessary to bring the idea into compliance with Ukrainian legislation.

He explained that now the work of officials is extremely inefficient and the creation of the Council for the Economic Development of Odesa Region is aimed at improving the quality of work of civil servants.
