Vacation insufficient reason for foreigners to enter Crimea from mainland Ukraine – State Migration Service

A desire spend a vacation in Crimea is not a sufficient reason for foreigners to receive permission to enter the peninsula from mainland Ukraine, the State Migration Service of Ukraine has reported.

"A resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers clearly states the reasons under which foreigners can obtain such permission and travel to the Crimean peninsula. A desire to spend a vacation in Crimea is not among these reasons today," spokesman of the State Migration Service Serhiy Hunko said on Thursday.

He said that legitimate reasons for foreigners to cross the land border including visiting close relatives and family graves, a family bereavement, or if the foreigner owns property in Crimea.

Hunko said that since the resolution came into force, nearly 3,500 foreigners have applied for such permission and 350 have been granted the right to cross the land border.

Under governmental resolution No. 367 of June 4, citizens of Ukraine can enter or exit Crimea with citizenship documents. Foreigners are required to carry their passport and have special permission granted by the State Migration Service.
