Damage done by overnight explosions near two Serbank of Russia offices insignificant - Kyiv police

Explosions in Darnytsky and Obolonsky districts of Kyiv were reported to the police after 1 a.m. on Monday, and the identity of culprits behind the incidents is being established.

"Two identical calls were made to police line 102 within five minutes. Explosions occurred near offices of a bank in the Darnytsky and Obolonsky districts. Buildings housing offices of the financial institution suffered insignificant damage when unknown devices went off. The blast wave damaged [office] doors and signs with the bank's name on them," the Kyiv police press service said in a report published on Monday morning.

According to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's Kyiv department, the explosions of the unknown devices did not lead to casualties. Bomb squad technicians are working on the incident sites.

The police are interviewing possible eyewitnesses and searching the area for surveillance cameras. The identity of possible suspects is being established.

The police department's public relations division said later that a criminal inquiry into the explosions in Kyiv had been opened by detectives of Darnytsky and Obolonsky districts on the counts of 'hooliganism'. The felony is punished with three to seven years in prison.

The police did not mention the name of the bank but Dmytro Vitov, a volunteer and member of the public organization Nadiyny Tyl (Secure Rear), wrote on Facebook about explosions near the buildings housing offices of Sberbank of Russia on Kurenivka and Akhmatova Street at about 1 a.m.
