Poroshenko hopes national public TV will be impartial, entertaining, professional
Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko has said that national public television will provide impartial and independent information.
"Now we're starting [something] very interesting, a very encouraging road, from First National TV Channel [all the way] up to the BBC. I also hope that news will be impartial and entertaining, with a lot of professionalism," Poroshenko said when presenting the new national public broadcasting company in Kyiv.
However, he said he was unhappy that the council which will appoint the leadership of the public broadcaster consists of politicians, as he believes that only public organizations and journalists should be part of the council, in order to ensure quality, impartiality and political independence.
Poroshenko added that he will submit a bill to the parliament to expunge the presence of politicians from the council.
