Avakov hopes US funding for law enforcement reform will come soon
The Interior Ministry of Ukraine hopes U.S. Government funds will arrive in the near future, in line with the Agreement on Reforming the Police Authorities of Ukraine.
While speaking in the parliament, Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov said that $16.772 million would mainly be used to create a police patrol service, and $9.636 million would be used to reform criminal justice, in particular, to combat corruption.
"Our partners – Americans, Europeans and a range of private funds, international organizations – never give money for valueless promises. Today we come out with a basic agreement with the U.S. Government that is approved by the White House and we must adopt it, so we can receive the first money virtually in the coming days," Avakov said.
According to Avakov, the United States is the main participant in the project to reform Ukrainian policing.
