Ottawa imposes sanctions on 37 individuals, 17 entities of Russia, Ukraine
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has issued a statement announcing economic sanctions and travel bans against 37 Russian and Ukrainian individuals, and economic sanctions against 17 Russian and Ukrainian entities.
The sanctions were imposed on Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, Rostec General Director Sergei Chemezov, Russian Armed Forces General Staff Deputy Chief Andrei Kartapolov, Russian Navy Rear Admirals Alexander Nosatov and Valery Kulikov, journalist Dmitry Kiselyov, parliament deputy and singer Iosif Kobzon, parliament member Valery Rashkin, biker Alexander "Surgeon" Zaldostanov, Maj. Gen. Alexei Naumets and Lt. Gen. Igor Turchenyuk, says a report posted on the Canadian premier's website.
The sanctions were also placed on the Novorossiya public movement and company Rosneft.
Besides, commander of the Sparta unit Arseniy "Motorola" Pavlov, commander of the Somali unit Mikhail "Givi" Toltsykh, LPR chief negotiator in the Contact Group Vladyslav Deineho, LPR defense minister Oleh Buhrov, Eduard Basurin of the DPR defense ministry, LPR health minister Larysa Airapetian, LPR education minister Lesia Lapteva, LPR Central Elections Commission head Serhiy Koziakov, DPR education minister Ihor Kostenok, the Oplot and Zarya battalions and some other entities faced the sanctions.
Canadian Foreign Minister Rob Nicholson said earlier that Canada was set to expand the blacklist of Russian individuals and companies.
An expanded blacklist of the European Union was posted on Monday. It has grown to 151 Russian and Ukrainian individuals and 37 companies.
