U.S. vice president calls for united support of Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has violated the international system of stability and continues to undermine the security of Europe, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has said.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference on February 7, Biden focused on three main threats: "First, the attempt to undermine Ukrainian sovereignty; second, the use of corruption as an instrument to try to undermine governments; and, third, the use of energy as a tool of coercion."

In his words, Western countries' policies rest on the principles that international borders should be honored, that there should be no spheres of influence, and that every nation has the sovereign right to choose its own alliances.

The U.S. vice president urged other nations to remain resolute and united in their support of Ukraine.

"What happens there will resonate well beyond Ukraine. It matters to all – not just in Europe, but around the world – all who may be subject to aggression; to all countries who expect Russia to honor the agreements they signed, whether at the United Nations, Budapest Memorandum, or even the Minsk Agreements," he said.
