U.S. cancels some sanctions against Crimea, say media reports

The U.S. Department of the Treasury on January 30 announced several new exceptions for sanctions imposed against occupied Crimea, Radio Svoboda has reported.

U.S. persons are now authorized to send and receive funds to or from Crimea, for or on behalf of an individual ordinarily resident in Crimea, as long as the transfer involves a noncommercial, personal remittance, apart from Specially Designated Nationals (SDN).

The U.S. department authorized the operation of an account in a U.S. financial institution for an individual ordinarily resident in Crimea, provided that transactions processed through the accounts are of a personal nature and not for supporting or operating a business, and do not involve transfers directly or indirectly to Crimea, or for the benefit of individuals ordinarily resident in Crimea.

The U.S. department has also authorized all transactions with respect to the receipt and transmission of telecommunications involving Crimea, provided that no payments involve any transactions with SDNs.
