Ukrzaliznytsia announces 135 additional journeys for holiday period
The State Railway Administration of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia) announced on December 9, 2014, that it had released 12 additional trains, allowing for 135 additional journeys, to satisfy high public demand for rail services over the New Year and Christmas breaks.
The head of the passenger department at Ukrzaliznytsia, Ihor Breus, also stated at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday that six regular routes will see an increased frequency of trains.
In general, during the peak transportation period from December 25 to December 31, a total of 169 long distance trains per day will operate.
Breus said that at present, over 404,500 tickets are available.
According to a press release, Ukrzaliznytsia had 135,000 seats for trains travelling to western Ukraine, with over 46,700 tickets still available. On average 30 trains per day will travel to western Ukraine
The company also had 69,000 tickets for passengers travelling to Odesa, with 44,200 tickets still available. On average 16 trains per day travel to Odesa.
Additional trains will run from Kyiv to Uzhgorod, Ivano-Frankivsk and Mykolaiv, from Odesa to Kryvy Rih, Uzhgorod and Chernivtsi, from Kharkiv to Uzhgorod and from Dnipropetrovsk to Lviv.
Tickets are now available for an additional 11 trains. If passenger demand grows, and Ukrzaliznytsia has rolling stock available, the number carriages forming individual trains travelling on currently schedules routes will be increased.
