Police preparing to transfer to court cases of 33 suspects involved in May 2 events in Odesa
Police are preparing to transfer to court the cases of 33 suspects involved in committing mass riots and crimes in Odesa on May 2, and the cases should be sent to court in late August or early September.
A senior investigator for particularly important cases of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's main office, Ruslan Sushkov, said at a meeting of a special commission of the Odesa Regional Council that these suspects included foreigners, in particular, citizens of Russia and the unrecognized Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic, as well as previously convicted citizens.
Sushkov declined to say how many of the suspects belonged to pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian forces, citing the secrecy of the investigation.
He also said that this part of the cases was related solely to the events that took place in the center of Odesa, not in the city's Trade Unions House, where most people died.
According to the investigator, these are not all suspects as most of those who committed crimes during the riots on May 2 disappeared, including abroad.
The trial of the suspects, according to Sushkov, will be open to the media.
