Ukrainian army, border guards restore control of 100 km along border with Russia

The Ukrainian military forces and border guards have carried out a military operation and restored control of a 100-km-long stretch of the state border with Russia, the Ukrainian president's press service reported on Thursday.

"The military forces report that as a result of a well-prepared operation, the Ukrainian military forces and border guards regained control over a 100-km-long stretch of the state border, even amid fighting with tanks," the press service said.

In the east of the country, "militants have for the first time used tanks, which, according to Ukrainian intelligence, originate from the Russian Federation," Poroshenko's press service said on Thursday.

"As a result of the military operation, which was planned the day before, the Ukrainian army has managed to keep the situation under control," the report says.

In this connection, Poroshenko held an emergency meeting with the chiefs of law enforcement agencies.
