Number of hryvnia billionaires falls to two people in Ukraine in 2013, says ministry

The Income and Tax Ministry of Ukraine has registered a reduction in the number of hryvnia billionaires from four to two people, according to the preliminary results of the declaration campaign for incomes received in 2013.

"We have two billionaires this year. This is information as of April 29," Deputy Director of the individuals' income and tax department at the ministry Serhiy Naumov said at a press conference in Kyiv last week.

He did not disclose the names of the persons and in what regions they are registered.

As reported, according to preliminary data as of April 29, 2014, 493,000 Ukrainian citizens submitted tax declarations for 2013 declaring income of UAH 37.5 billion.

According to declarations submitted from January 1 to April 30, 3,380 millionaires were officially registered in Ukraine, which is 40 people more than in the previous year.

Citizens declared income from wages in the amount of UAH 13.9 billion; from the sale of movable and immovable property - UAH 3.9 billion; inheritance and property received as a gift - UAH 6.7 billion; from rent of property - UAH 1 billion; from transactions with investment assets - UAH 1.2 billion.

Declarants also registered UAH 1.1 billion of foreign income and other income in the amount of UAH 7.6 billion.
