Ukrainian border guards gradually redeploy from Crimea to mainland Ukraine
The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service has begun redeploying its troops from Crimea to mainland Ukraine, Pavlo Shysholin, deputy head of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service, said.
"As for the personnel who are serving on the territory of Crimea, I would say we have begun gradual redeploying to the territory of Ukraine," he told a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
The naval sailors have been regrouped to Mariupol and Odesa, he said.
Shysholin said the state intends to provide comprehensive support to the families of the border guards who are leaving Crimea.
He also said border guards have been controlling the administrative border of Kherson and Zaporizhia regions and Crimea and inspecting all road vehicles and trains for several days now. Some 1,000 people have left Crimea for mainland Ukraine, saying they were forced to, he said.
