Legal nihilism of local council deputies in western regions of Ukraine is unacceptable - Ukrainian president

1 min read

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has warned the heads of local councils in the western regions of Ukraine about liability for legal nihilism and separatism.

"Some heads of local councils, primarily regional councils, especially in the western regions, have chosen to engage in cheap politics. I mean the recent populist calls and decisions. In actuality, these decisions are legal nihilism," Yanukovych said at a meeting of the Council of Regions in Kyiv on Thursday.

"Are law enforcement officials and officials from the Prosecutor General's Office present here? Such decisions are unacceptable, dear colleagues," he said.

The president reiterated that he will never allow legal nihilism or separatism in the country. "It's unacceptable. We will bring order to this situation. And the culprits will bear liability in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation," Yanukovych said.
