Ukraine ready to complete plan of actions to ease visa regulations with EU as quickly as possible - Yanukovych
Ukraine is ready to complete the plan of actions to ease travel regulations with EU countries as quickly as possible, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said at a plenary meeting of the Eastern Partnership summit.
"We are ready to complete implementing a relevant plan of actions as quickly as possible. We count on the understanding, support and solidarity of the European Union in this extremely important issue," Yanukovych' press office quoted him as saying on Friday.
Introducing visa-free travel is an important step, which will bring Ukraine closer to the EU, Yanukovych said. "I am certain that the most indicative step, which would show that the EU is indeed ready to open its doors for us, would be introducing visa-travel for the Ukrainian citizens without a delay," he said.
As to further success in implementing the initiative of states-partners, it is necessary to set clear guides and goals for the Eastern Partnership, the Ukrainian president said.
"The strategic discussion on ways to optimize economic cooperation between the EU and the Eastern partnership members and to recognize the European prospect for the interested partners could begin today and get clear terms in the time prior to the next summit in Latvia," Yanukovych said.
