Merkel urges Ukraine to fulfill conditions for signing of Association Agreement with EU
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has noted that 10 days remain until the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius and urged Ukraine's government to fulfill the EU's requirements for the signing of the Association Agreement in Vilnius.
Merkel said this at a sitting of the Bundestag on Monday, according to a posting on the Web site of the Batkivschyna Party.
Ten days remain until the summit, while still there is no confidence that Ukraine will manage to fulfill all necessary conditions outlined by the EU Council on December 10, 2012, said Merkel.
"Today I have to say that it's not clear yet if Ukraine really intends to fulfill all the requirements [of the EU] for the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU," Merkel said.
She also said that if Kyiv fulfills all of the EU's requirements, the EU would provide Kyiv with assistance if Russia applies sanctions against Ukraine.
