Yanukovych clearly implies that Ukraine opts for Europe – US Assistant Secretary of State
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych assured U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland that Ukraine has made a choice in favor of European Integration.
"During our meeting, the president clearly implied that Ukraine has made a choice in favor of Europe," Nuland told journalists following a meeting with Yanukovych on Monday.
She also said that the United States supports Ukraine's right to make its own choice and is ready to support it completely on its way to the fulfillment of the requirements necessary for signing the Association Agreement and the creation of a free trade area with the EU.
"Tonight we will take an opportunity to congratulate Ukraine on the work it has carried out in order to fulfill the requirements outlined by the EU for the signing of the Association Agreement. This [required the approval of] literally dozens of bills," she said.
Nuland also said that she handed over to Yanukovych a letter from US Secretary of State John Kerry praising Ukraine for its achievements on the way towards European integration and calling on the Ukrainian government to complete the remaining tasks on this way.
