State budget for 2014 must be better than one for 2013, says Yanukovych
The difficult economic situation in Ukraine today must not affect the life of the Ukrainian people, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
"An economic crisis is raging in Ukraine and in the world… Our key task in this situation is to do our best in order to prevent our people's lives from worsening, at the least," Yanukovych said during a meeting with candidates for positions of heads of district state administrations, reads a posting on the president's Web site on Thursday.
"The 2014 budget should be not worse than the 2013 budget, but better," the head of state said.
Yanukovych said that Ukraine has been gradually improving its social standards, first of all pensions and wages, starting from 2010.
"In comparison with the beginning of 2010, wages have grown by 59% and pensions by 42%," the president said, adding that over these three years the GDP rate increased from UAH 968 billion to around UAH 1.5 trillion.
The president added that stable economic growth is an important condition for funding social payments.
