Yanukovych: Celebration of 70th anniversary Ukraine's liberation from German occupation should unite Ukrainian people
The celebration of the 70th anniversary of Ukraine's liberation from German occupation and the great victory should unite Ukrainian people around common achievements and shared memory of the millions of victims of the Great Patriotic War (Second World War), President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has said.
Yanukovych said this in his speech at the events to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Kharkiv from German occupation, the press service of the Ukrainian president reported on Friday.
In his speech, the Ukrainian president said that with this purpose a relay among Ukrainian cities dubbed "Glory to Ukraine's liberators" started in Luhansk at the beginning of this year.
"Today, Kharkiv has taken over the race. In 2013, Sumy, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Poltava, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy and Zhytomyr regions will take up the baton. On November 6, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv from the Nazis," Yanukovych said.
"I am confident that together we will honor the magnificent feat of liberators, and preserve the traditions of our older generations," the president said.
