Tymoshenko has better conditions than other convicts, says prison service

Jailed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is allowed to have more meetings than the law stipulates, the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has said.

"The State Penitentiary Service once again states that its employees never hampered the organization of meetings with convict Tymoshenko. She was and is allowed to hold many more meetings, even despite the requirements of relevant official instructions," reads the prison service's statement.

The state service said that no other convict, including even those who are serving their sentences for less serious crimes, enjoy conditions similar to those created for Tymoshenko or the concessions made by the administration of the prison service to her.

Earlier on Monday, the Batkivschyna Party reported that Tymoshenko's daughter and defense counsel, Yevhenia Tymoshenko, was not allowed to meet with the ex-premier.

In turn, the prison service stated that the administration of Kachanivska penal colony allowed Yevhenia to meet with the ex-premier at the ward, and not at the meeting room, as an exception.

Later on, First Deputy Head of the Batkivschyna Kharkiv regional organization Iryna Yefremova said that Yevhenia Tymoshenko had to wait for an hour-and-a-half before she was allowed to see her mother.
