An international medical commission, involving German doctors from the Berlin-based Charite Hospital, has started working in Kharkiv, Ukrainian Deputy Health Minister Oleksandr Tolstanov has said.

"The international commission has begun its work. Traditionally, it began with a report by the doctor who oversees the health of [former Prime Minister] Yulia Volodymyrivna Tymoshenko," he told reporters on Monday outside the building of Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv, where Tymoshenko is undergoing treatment.

He said that German doctors had praised the volume and fullness of the fulfillment of procedures recommended by them.

"Our German colleagues praised the actions of Ukrainian doctors, and we, of course, are very pleased. For example, Professor [Karl Max] Einhaupl said that he would trust his health to Ukrainian doctors," Tolstanov said.

He also said that German doctors were planning to leave Ukraine in the afternoon on Monday.

He expressed confidence that before their departure they would confirm the conclusions of Ukrainian doctors about positive changes in Tymoshenko's physical activity and overall condition.

As reported, doctors from the Charite Hospital arrived at the former prime minister's hospital at about 0800 on Monday.

On October 11, 2011, Pechersky District Court in Kyiv sentenced Tymoshenko to seven years in prison for abuse of office when signing gas contracts with Russia in 2009. She has served her prison term in Kachanivska Penal Colony in Kharkiv since late December 2011. Tymoshenko is currently undergoing medical treatment in a hospital in Kharkiv. The tactics and medical treatment of the ex-premier are determined by German doctors from Charite Hospital (Berlin).

German doctors, Einhaupl and Anett Reisshauer, last visited Tymoshenko in late February.
