Kyiv police start official inquiry into police inactivity during beating of journalists in Kyiv on May 18
The main investigation department of the Ukraine's Interior Ministry in Kyiv has ordered the holding of an official inquiry into the inactivity of the policemen on duty during incident that happened at 18 Velyka Zhytomyrska Street, in which journalists were injured.
"An official investigation on this incident was ordered, and now it is being held," said the acting head of public relations department of the Interior Ministry, Serhiy Burlakov.
He said that the results of the investigation would be publicly released.
As reported, at around 1420 on May 18 a scuffle occurred between participants of rallies on Velyka Zhytomyrska Street. Young men threw bottles with water and stones at each other. Several people were injured in the scuffle.
Meanwhile, Channel 5 reported that its journalist Olha Snitsarchuk and a photographer of the Kommersant publication Vlad Sodel were injured in the incident.
The scuffle took place during the event 'Rise Up, Ukraine!' on Sofiyska Square, and during a rally under the aegis of the Regions Party on European Square. The incident took place outside the main building of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine.
