State Penitentiary Service asks doctors to resolve issue of Tymoshenko's presence in hospital
The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has asked doctors from Kharkiv's hospital to resolve the issue of the need for former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to continue staying in the medical institution and added that the ex-premier could be transferred to prison based on the conclusions of doctors.
"We have her [Tymoshenko's] statement, in which she has repeatedly stated her desire to participate in the trial (although there were no real actions on her side). Based on this statement, we raise the question of the need for her to stay at the central clinical hospital any longer," chief of the Kachanivska Penal Colony, Ihor Kolpahchykov, told Interfax-Ukraine.
He said that when this issue is resolved, the State Penitentiary Service would be able to transfer Tymoshenko to prison without any obstacles.
As reported, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court found Tymoshenko guilty of abuse of office in concluding a gas supply agreement with Russia in 2009 and sentenced her to seven years in prison on October 11, 2011. She has been serving her prison term at a penitentiary in Kharkiv since December 2011.
