Nemyria: EU, US ambassadors again ask for immediate meeting with Tymoshenko
EU Ambassador to Ukraine Jan Tombinski and U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John Tefft have again asked for a meeting with former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who is undergoing treatment in Ukrzaliznytsia's Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 (Kharkiv), Batkivschyna Party MP Hryhoriy Nemyria has said.
"Ambassador Tombinski told me that he and U.S. Ambassador John Tefft had again appealed to the Ukrainian authorities, the Foreign Ministry and the Ukrainian president to urgently give them an opportunity to visit Tymoshenko here and make sure that [President Viktor] Yanukovych's promises are being fulfilled. He said that this week they again submitted such an application, because there had been no answer at all to the application submitted this January," he told reporters on Friday outside the building of the hospital.
Nemyria said that he had also informed Tombinski that he, along with other MPs from Batkivschyna, could not enjoy his right to have a short meeting with Tymoshenko on March 1 and study the conditions of her detention.
As reported, Batkivschyna MPs Arseniy Yatseniuk, Nemyria and Serhiy Pashynsky arrived at Ukrzaliznytsia's Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 on Friday to have a short meeting with Tymoshenko.
The meeting was not held. The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine said that Tymoshenko had refused to meet with the MPs.
In January 2013, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Tefft and Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Tombinski asked the Ukrainian authorities to allow them to meet with Tymoshenko.
