PGO: Tymoshenko should be sent from hospital to prison if she does not need treatment

Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko should be transferred to Kachanivska Penal Colony from Ukrzaliznytsia's Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 if she does not need treatment, but this question lies in the competence of the State Penitentiary Service, the deputy head of the main investigation department at the Prosecutor General's Office, Liliya Frolova, has said.

"It's a question for the penitentiary service. If she [Tymoshenko] does not require treatment, she should be transferred to the colony, because she was convicted under a court ruling, and she must serve her sentence [in the colony]," Frolova told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday.

Kyiv's Pechersky Court found Tymoshenko guilty of abuse of office in concluding a gas supply agreement with Russia in 2009 and sentenced her to seven years in prison on October 11, 2011. She has been serving her prison term at a penitentiary in Kharkiv since December 2011.

On May 9, Tymoshenko was moved from the prison to Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv.

A Health Ministry commission analyzing the state of Tymoshenko's health concluded on February 22 that the ex-premier does not require any further medical treatment and follow-up care at the hospital.

According to the Health Ministry's press service, the recommendations regarding Tymoshenko's treatment and rehabilitation provided by doctors from the Berlin clinic Charite have been fulfilled.

Members of the medical commission said many of the physiotherapy procedures received by Tymoshenko are not in line with any practice or standard and they can have an adverse effect.
