In response to a direct offer of the employees of Kachanivska penal colony to be taken to Kyiv on Friday morning to attend the questioning of a witness in a case on the murder of MP Yevhen Scherban, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said she could not do this due to her health problems, the press service of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine reported on Thursday evening.

"Tymoshenko said the State Penitentiary Service will violate certain legal provisions, if she is taken to court. The penitentiary service's staff referred to her earlier statement that she had addressed earlier to the leadership of the colony, which said that she wanted to be present during the questioning. However, she didn't give a direct answer to a question whether she agreed to be taken to Kyiv," the statement reads.

The penitentiary service said that it would not take Tymoshenko to court against her will.

The prison staff drew up a document certifying that Tymoshenko was not willing to attend the hearing. This document will be sent to court.
