Doctor: 'Tymoshenko feels well, even joked today'
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who is undergoing treatment at Ukrzaliznytsia's Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 (Kharkiv), feels well, the hospital's chief doctor, Mykhailo Afanasyev, has said.
"Reports alleging that she cannot move, and in particular walk, are untrue. Her condition is satisfactory, and the patient feels well. Today I talked to her. She is quite active, and she was even joking," he told Interfax-Ukraine, while commenting on Tymoshenko's health.
He said that it is not objective to talk all the time about the worsening of the former prime minister's condition, as is written in the press.
"Judge for yourself: the patient has been in our facility under the supervision of medical staff for the ninth month, and she has undergone more than 500 rehabilitation procedures. Moreover, our German colleagues repeatedly noted the improvement of Tymoshenko's general health over the entire period of her recovery," the doctor said.
At the same time, according to Afanasyev, on Tuesday, Tymoshenko is continuing to refuse to undergo the procedures prescribed by German doctors.
As reported, on January 8, Tymoshenko's lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, read out her open letter to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, in which the ex-premier declared a campaign of civil disobedience.
The former prime minister said that she refused to recognize the prosecutors and investigators involved in her case and was not going to talk to them anymore. Tymoshenko also said she would not come to court voluntarily, and should they try to bring her to court by force, she would offer every resistance she could. The ex-premier also refused to go back to her hospital ward unless video surveillance and the guard are removed.
