Batkivschyna demands that situation with Tymoshenko be considered by parliament on January 29

The Batkivschyna parliamentary faction has demanded that the situation with former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko be considered by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, at an unscheduled sitting on January 29.

The faction leader, Arseniy Yatseniuk, sent a relevant letter to Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak on Monday.

"The opposition demands that the Verkhovna Rada call an unscheduled sitting on January 29 in order to form an inquiry panel to investigate violations of the constitution by the imprisonment of Yulia Tymoshenko and [former Interior Minister of Ukraine] Yuriy Lutsenko, consider issues related to the political responsibility of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Interior Ministry chiefs for the involvement of law enforcers in political persecutions, as well as on the resignation of the prosecutor general," reads the statement.

Earlier, the UDAR parliamentary faction announced that it has started collecting signatures to support the initiative.

Regions Party parliamentary faction member Volodymyr Oliynyk said that his faction was ready to help the opposition collect signatures.
