Idea of sanctions against Ukrainian officials looks like response to Tymoshenko's conviction, says Foreign Ministry
The proposal of sanctions against Ukrainian officials by the EU looks like score settling in response to criminal proceedings against former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine.
"This is the punishment of those involved in sentencing of Tymoshenko. This is score-settling," the director of the Foreign Ministry's information policy department, Oleh Voloshyn, said on air of the Channel 5 on Monday evening.
He noted that the introduction of sanctions against representatives of law enforcement agencies for the performance of their duties looks strange at the very least.
The Foreign Ministry's spokesman believes that personal sanctions should be introduced when there is evidence of corruption, or serious violation of human rights.
