Elections in Ukraine may stimulate further signature of Association Agreement with EU, says head of EP's mission

The head of the European Parliament's election observation mission, Pawel Kowal, has said that Ukraine needs anew incentive for further European integration.

"Of course, we need a new incentive for the signature and ratification of the Association Agreement," he said at a high-level roundtable discussion entitled "The parliamentary elections in Ukraine: international view" in Kyiv on Sunday.

He noted that the current parliamentary elections could give such a signal on the way towards European integration.

"Personally I think that Ukraine is a normal European democracy," the European parliamentarian said.

He also stressed the importance of quality of work of a new Ukrainian parliament.

"It is important how the new parliament will develop, how the opposition, the authorities and the new parties in the parliament will manage to cooperate," Kowal said.

In connection with this, Kowal wished the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine to build constructive cooperation with the new parliament in the sphere of further movement towards European integration.
