Former EP President Buzek calls on Ukrainians to vote at parliamentary elections
Former President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek has called on Ukrainians to come and vote at the parliamentary elections in the country due on October 28.
Buzek's statement, which was passed to an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent in Brussels on Thursday, reads: "Dear Ukrainians, friends! Today, when the parliamentary elections in Ukraine are approaching, I would like to repeat once again – go to the elections! Don't let somebody else make decisions on which your fate depends!"
According to him, the future of Ukraine and Ukrainians is at stake.
"Today, as never before, the quality of our future cooperation [between Ukraine and the EU] really depends on the quality of the elections. We will not intrude in the process of Ukrainians expressing their will. Your have the right to express your will, and only you should decide whom to support. But we want your will to be heard and treated with respect," Buzek said.
The politician also said he hoped Ukraine would hold transparent and fair elections.
"You managed to do this at the previous elections, and we hope you will do the same this time," he said.
Buzek also noted that on October 28 "the history of Ukraine will not end."
"Reforms should be implemented after the elections – in the economy, local government, and the judicial system. […] Your vote is your contribution to building a democratic Ukraine, a country where there is the supremacy of law and there is no corruption," he said.
"I believe that on October 28 such Ukraine will win, Ukrainians will win. We sincerely wish you this," he said.
